Computing at Holbeach Bank Academy
At Holbeach Bank Academy, we follow a progressive computing curriculum in which pupils build their skills year on year, beginning in EYFS with simple algorithms. As they move through school, they develop knowledge across key areas such as programming, networks, media creation, data, systems, safety, and the impact of technology, supported by Purple Mash, Google Suite, and the Teach Computing curriculum.
Our Approach
- EYFS: Pupils begin to explore what technology is and how it is used in everyday life. They develop basic skills to use digital tools safely and start to follow instructions and show resilience when solving problems.
- KS1: Pupils learn that algorithms are clear instructions and begin to create and debug simple programs. They use digital tools to create, save and organise work, carry out simple searches, and explore basic data handling.
- KS2: Pupils design, write and debug increasingly complex programs using logical steps, repetition, selection and variables. They create, analyse and improve digital content and data, and develop a strong understanding of computer networks and how they lead to effective online communication.
Alongside the computing curriculum, pupils take part in weekly online safety sessions following Purple Mash’s 2BeSafe scheme. These sessions support children to use technology safely, understand risks, and know what to do and who to tell if they are worried or feel unsafe online.
Vision in Action
In our Computing lessons, pupils are actively supported in exploring digital concepts through practical, enquiry‑led activities, with a range of tools and technologies used to develop subject knowledge and key skills such as logical thinking, problem‑solving and digital creativity. Teaching is inclusive, well-structured and enriched with meaningful, real‑world contexts so that computing learning is brought to life for all children.
