Food Technology at Holbeach Bank Academy
Food technology is the study of how we make, prepare, and use food. It helps us learn about healthy eating, cooking safely, and different foods. In food technology, we can explore different ingredients, understand where food comes from, and even try making our own meals. It is a fun way to combine science, creativity, and practical skills to enjoy and take care of the food we eat.
Our Approach:
● Pupils develop skills and knowledge to prepare and cook a variety of different dishes safely and confidently.
● Pupils learn about balanced diets, the importance of nutrition, and essential hygiene and safe food-handling practices to prepare and enjoy food safely.
● Pupils explore where food comes from and how it is grown, inspiring them to experiment with different ingredients and create their own dishes.
● Pupils use produce grown in the school allotment to prepare meals, helping them understand where food comes from and the journey from farm to plate.
Vision in Action:
Our food technology curriculum develops pupils’ knowledge and skills through practical, hands-on learning. They explore healthy eating, nutrition, food hygiene, and the origins of food, using produce from the school allotment to inspire creativity and experimentation. This approach ensures pupils gain practical skills, scientific understanding, and confidence within preparation and cooking.
