Sports Premium

Sports Premium funding is used to support progress against the 5 key indicators outlined on the action plan:

Key Indicator 1 – The engagement of all pupils in regular physical activity – Chief Medical Officers guidelines recommend that primary school pupils undertake at least 30 minutes of physical activity a day in school.

Key Indicator 2 – The profile of PESSPA being raised across the school as a tool for whole school improvement.

Key Indicator 3 – Increased confidence, knowledge and skills of all staff in teaching PE and sport.

Key Indicator 4 – Broader experience of a range of sports and activities offered to all pupils.

Key Indicator 5 – Increased participation in competitive sport.

The action plan is ragged to show progress and achievement against the key indicators termly with evidence detailed.  This is reported and shared with governors.

Robust monitoring is completed by SLT and the curriculum team to ensure impact of funding is measured and reviewed.

Swimming skills and achievements such as the % that achieve 25m using a key stroke and water safety skills are also monitored and reported on, together with water safety skills.

The academy works with 2 key providers that have supported and impacted well on staff CPD and pupil participation and progression.  These are Sport2Day and Agilitas.  Sport2Day have ensured enrichment and a broader range of activities offered to the children and Agilitas have supported the academy in addressing lost content from COVID 19 lockdowns and restrictions through dance and gymnastics support as well as games specific skills. Recent initiatives such as orienteering have supported pupil engagement particularly those less engaged pupils as well as linking and connecting other areas of the curriculum such as maths and geography.  Real PE is an investment the academy is making this academic year to futher embed fundamental movement skills and positive learning behaviours supporting a holistic approach to PE.  Also the initiative ‘One Small Step’ linked to Food Standards and healthy lifestyles is being launched to further impact.

This provision has also contributed to progression across the 3 pillars of progression:

1. Fundamental Movement Skills.

2. Rules, strategies and tactics.

3. Healthy participation.

HAF (Holiday Activity Fund) Provision

The HAF programme provides healthy food and enriching activities for our children during some of the holidays. The scheme will be supported by us during the Christmas, Easter and summer holiday breaks. The scheme is funded by the Government and dellivered by local councils of which South Holland is one. We are pleased to support this working in partnership with Evolve , our sports Mentor team and it proves popular with our families.

Why it is valuable- The funding helps to ensure eligible families have access to healthy food as well as fun, enriching activities to help them keep active during the school holidays.

How the programme works- The local council works with Sport2Day, our Sports Mentor Club to offer enriching sporting activities to further  develop and enhance skills and knowledge.

The Holiday clubs also offer healthy free meals and opportunities to socialse within and across peer groups.

The academy works closely with Sport2Day who work alongside staff to support ongoing CPD and offer additional enrichment and after school provision.

Sport2Day are registered to deliver provision during holidays funded through the HAF (Holiday Activity Fund) project aimed at providing enrichment supporting active lifestyles and healthy eating through the school holidays.  This is particularly aimed at disadvantaged children.  Holbeach Bank Academy has been a venue used since December 2021 and has been really successful with positive feedback and increased participation.  This has further impacted on pupil participation in inter school competitions, engagment in after school clubs and increased activity during lunch and break times.
