What we are learning about this Term?
Autumn Term 1 2026- Medieval Madness
This half term, pupils will explore our theme Medieval Madness through a rich blend of subjects that bring the Middle Ages to life. In English and Reading, children study The Book of Boy and historical fiction, using these texts to inspire character descriptions, legends, newspaper reports, and letters, while developing key grammar and spelling skills. Maths moves through place value, addition and subtraction, multiplication and division, and into fractions. History forms the core of the term, guiding pupils through daily life in Medieval Britain, Magna Carta, the Black Death, and the Peasants’ Revolt, before considering how these events still shape our lives today. Art focuses on illuminated letters, leading into DT where pupils research Medieval banquets, write recipes, budget ingredients, and create a banqueting table. Computing builds confidence with word processing, images, formatting, sharing tools, and tables, while PSHE explores goals, rights, behaviour, consequences, and democracy. Science centres on electricity, circuits, components, and major discoveries, and RE encourages thoughtful enquiry into belief, truth, inspirational figures, and philosophical ideas. Finally, French introduces vocabulary for fruits and opinions through a range of speaking, listening, reading and writing activities
Overview for the Term
Autumn Term 1: The Book of Boy by Catherine Gilbert-Murdock
The year is 1350. Boy, a hunchbacked, sweet-natured goatherd, is content in his quiet country life. But when a shadowy pilgrim with a dangerous past arrives on the farm, his world is turned upside down.
Secundus is a man on a mission, and upon first sight of Boy, enlists him as his servant, ripping him away from tranquility and plunging them both into a perilous medieval treasure hunt … but there is more to the pilgrim’s quest than meets the eye.
